'Scent of Desire'

With talent contests running on every channel and youngsters slugging it out to get their share of limelight, one gets excited to see a ‘rising star’, an unknown face on TV everyday. MTV India started airing a music video called ‘Scent of Desire’ sung by an unknown voice called Silky Kumar (I bet you haven’t heard of him much) and I thought — what a name to have for an upcoming star singer? Well it turns out that he’s actually a conceptualized character for a popular deodorant brand [read more]. Whatever has been said about the video, I love the melodious retro-styled music and choreography which takes you back to the 80s era (think Bappida and the disco). Most notably the video has been creatively executed without resorting to unnecessary skin show.

BTW, I recognized one of the girls in the dancers behind (in green outfit) who was also seen in the ‘It’s Rocking’ video, with Kareena Kapoor but I wish I could get further details on the director of the video, the actor, choreographer and so on. Go, watch the video and rate it yourself.

DELL India Service is Deplorable

DELL LogoIt was a dream come true for me when I settled for a DELL Inspiron model for my residence which got delivered and installed last week. I also signed up for the DELL Care Premium (you pay more here), being aware that machines can betray the most dedicated human being anytime. True to my belief, within 48 hours I faced an issue with my DVD/CDROM drive when Windows Vista was unable to load the drivers for the optical drive. Soon after, Vista began ‘checking’ for a solution on the Microsoft server but returned with zero results so I started finding answers on my own. I went to the device manager and uninstalled/reinstalled the driver and so on in vain. I had perceived that behind Vista’s fabulous ‘WOW’ inteface, would also be a ‘thinking brain’ (ala Macintosh) which would take care of the problems with the PC in real-time, thus negating the intervention of a service vendor. I know It’s a far fetched idea but I am always thinking positive. Coming back to my problem, on one website I found an elaborate step-by-step instructions on the issue but the fear of cranking up a machine still under warranty, kept me away from doing anything silly.

At the KK Concert

This was truly the most happening event of yesterday. I had got passes to the ‘KK Sensational Nite’ concert organized by TCS along with it’s social service foundation called Maitree. The event was held at the Shanmukhananda Hall at King’s Circle in Mumbai, attended by young TCSers who rocked the house completely.

KK sang a few of his hits from his album Pal including Yaaron, Aap Ki Dua and (of course) Pal. Then he moved onto sing his film songs. Just a small list in random order –
Bardhasht Nahi Kar Sakta (Humraaz),
• Tadap Tadap (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam),
• Dus Bahane (Dus),
• Kya Mujhe Pyar Hai (Woh Lamhe),
• Tu Aashiqui Hai (Jhankar Beats),
• O Humdum Suniyo Re (Saathiya),
• It’s the Time to Disco (Kal Ho Naa Ho),
• Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe (Dil Chahta Hai),
• Sach Keh Raha Hai Deewana (Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein),
• Awarapan Banjarapan (Jism)
• Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai (Gangster)
etc. etc.

Who's Children?

A sunny summer morning, as I walk past the trees and the lanes, bypassing the crowds to reach office on time. Droplets of sweat are marching down my face, as I try to stop them helplessly with my handkerchief. I approach a bus stop on my way, when suddenly the morning calm is shattered by a wailing child. As I look around, I find a mother chasing an urchin girl with a stick in her hand. The child, barely 2 years and only in her undies had already received the first blow on her thigh and was crying aloud in pain. She was running away, howling and trying to save her skin from further destruction. The mother was unrepentant though. She was swearing at the poor child and threw the stick at her which missed her narrowly. This chase had to end now unless the child gets brutally crushed under an oncoming bus, I said to myself still walking away from the incident.
