Back from Heaven

I have come back from a hectic 10 country European tour and I don’t have enough words to describe it. The experience was exciting (don’t think I need to say that, do I?) is all I can manage just now. I am in the process of writing a travelogue – a day by day account of my trip and trying to finish it early so I can share it with you guys. Meanwhile, I have published some selected pictures from the trip on my Flickr page. So enjoy them for the time being while I go back to writing my article.

You can meet God

With the advancement in technology and the evolution of the human mind, the value that entertainment brings to its viewers becomes directly related to the size of the TV screen. I soon realized my TV was not performing to the best of its abilities in the 21st century. Hence I decided to upgrade my TV screen to 29″ and walked into this big electronics departmental store in suburban Mumbai to make choice. Being an ardent brand loyalist, I opted for this TV brand which I had already owned twice earlier. The choice was therefore easy to make and the TV entered my house on the promised day.

Hello 2.1

This has been my longest absence from the website since I started out. The reasons are aplenty but by and large it was the frustration of not being able to resolve issues that had kept me away from writing. So the good news is that I have successfully implemented WordPress 2.1 albeit with some riders.

As many of you would notice, the Links section has gone. WordPress apparently made some changes to their bookmarks framework which broke my original design up. Since the migration to 2.1 was on priority and with my limited developing capabilities, I had to dump the idea completely. At one point of time, I had decided to alter my website design to accommodate the links section. However, a user-friendly theme like BLIX would be difficult to find. So either I will build a new link section from scratch or I will wait for someone to provide me with a workaround.

I am back on track now for further development unless WordPress releases some awkward version which I have to fight again. Just kidding, I wish WordPress many more successful launches in the future :-)

Implementing 2.1 Over Here

All must be aware that WordPress launched it’s most important, version 2.1 (codenamed “Ella”) which promises to be a scalable CMS. It’s good news for many of us who are always looking to push the envelope of WordPress functions. However, unlike previous versions, 2.1 has undergone major code changes which makes it difficult for non-techies to fully understand and implement the system on the server. Some might know that it’s not as easy as taking a back-up and overwriting the server files and boom! it’s done.

I am facing some technical issues with WordPress 2.1 code and I have almost come to a state of abject delirium. I am spending some time at the WordPress Support to see if answers can be found. Meanwhile if a good soul has implemented WP 2.1 and is willing to offer advise, do get in touch with me.

Rakes without Racks

Regular passengers on the Western Suburban Railway route will realize the pressures of the daily commute – the crowds, the sweat and those battles to secure every inch of space for standing ‘comfortably’. The lucky ones are those who commute to and fro from one point to the other (say Borivli to Churchgate); no botheration of alighting or getting into the train midway which could mean enrolling oneself for another battle for barging into the crowded compartments. As if these daily crusades weren’t enough, the railways have now introduced some rakes which are devoid of the luggage racks. These racks were a boon for keeping luggage while you travel and also holding onto it as you stand closer to the window. This decision was apparently taken (in a haste?) after the July 11 train bombings to deter any terrorist from planting a bag loaded with explosives and risking the lives of many.
