Flash Accessibility Workshop

Macromedia Flash 8 PackThis was yet another attempt on my part to get familiar with Accessibility. The term means a lot but to me it refers to usability of computer systems by people with disabilities or age related limitations. I was notified about this seminar which looked at Macromedia (formerly) Flash as a delivery tool and how one can make it accessible – Designing Accessible eLEarning Applications with Flash. The title was intriguing because I never thought one could make it accessible the way HTML/xHTML behaves and hence I decided to participate.

Aperture Launched

Apple ApertureThis would be the greatest revelation as far as I am concerned. All this while I was feeling proud about Apple not succumbing to the market gimmicks of using Flash on their website. They have a novel way of seeking aesthetic value even in the most simplest of things. The fact that Apple was not using Flash anywhere across their website was a very challenging thought in itself because it was able to achieve good results without using the SWF technology.

Not any more. Apple has just launched it’s new software called Aperture and has used Flash beautifully on the official website. The black colour lends a certain entertaining aura, much to the liking of any photographer. If you are a designer and you want to see aesthetics marry usability then visit Apple.com.

Macromedia Studio 8 Launch

Macromedia Studio 8I was priveleged to attend the launch of Macromedia Studio 8. I say so not because I received a special invite from Macromedia but my plans almost got scuttled with Jayant announcing the monthly marketing meet today. Thankfully Giri understood the importance of attending the seminar and I was relieved for half a day.
