Truly Deeply God

I would search for her as a kid, after waking up early morning but she would be gone for the office and then I would get to see her only in the evenings. The hectic schedule apart, she would come home and serve hot meals for the entire family and there was no respite from that chore even on holidays. In other words, she was a 24/7 working business model even before the BPOs came into existence. A dedicated ‘project manager’ of my time, she balanced her office, her domestic errands and our school work so brilliantly that the results were there for the rest of the world to see. Without any doubt, she is the most respected woman in the society for bringing up a cultured family by imbibing good thoughts and standing up bravely to the challenges thrown at her by life.

The day has finally dawned when she will be hassled by the endless rush hour of Mumbai locals for one last time. For after 30+ years of the daily grind and nurturing her family no less like a God, my momma will be retiring from active service, this day.

Fairly Relaxed Today

A friday is a day when you actually are free from all the worries of the past week and are looking forward to spending time on the weekends. At the office though, we have been undergoing some horrific moments over the Banking website. Nevertheless, today was really a wonderful day for me. For a start, it was after a long time that I wore my favorite Provogue shirt :-)

Stranded!!

Its supposed to be the heaviest rainfall for Mumbai in 100 years! The records can be set straight by looking at the devastation bought about by the rain gods. I spent 2 days eating, sleeping, playing games in the office and also shopped for clothes at Westside like a touring guest. I also went and shopped for toiletries – face soap, shaving kits, toothbrushes & toothpaste. I don’t know how much I can justify the money that I spent on the purchases but I was ready to stay back for a few more days if the train services had not resumed to Borivli. I caught the 8:38 Borivli local which reached its destination at 10:30 but I had no complaints. It’s nothing short of a miracle that I reached home safe and sound.

Forget Shanghai or any other city that you may have wanted to stay. These rains proved to be a test to the government’s dreams of turning Mumbai into a world class place to live. The administration was caught napping. You might be tempted to defend the government but please don’t forget those hundreds who slept on the roads, away from their family because the transportation services went offline. This is something that Mumbai faces all the time and everytime it displays a human face of the tragedy which is people coming out of their houses and helping the needy. Even this time I heard stories of people distributing medicine and food packets absolutely free. This is the time to make a strong resolve of improving upon our defunct public services. Throw those outdated disaster management manuals if they ever existed and innovate newer methods so that the local populace is not subjected to third degree stresses by the forces of nature. Forget torential rains, have we braced ourselves for a tsunami or a Category 1 cyclone?

Mumbai Under Siege

It’s monsoon time again and what can be more frightening for mumbai city than that. 400 mm in just a day and the rumour is that there’s no respite from it for the next 24 hours too. It’s my prediction that there are atleast 2-3 days in the month of July when rains have total command over this city and it brings it to a complete standstill and it has come true almost all the time.

OK Day

I seem to have gone mad after I was introduced to Corel Painter and WACOM Intous by Shyam. Infact I was ruing about the fact that I could not get the tabby on saturday itself :-( But anyways, I am trying to pick the basics right now although doing the same with a mouse seems very difficult but I will manage till this weekend when the tabby will be there for me :-)

I went to Jayant’s place for a luncheon and a get-together today. I liked the place a lot which is located at Prabhadevi, right next to the Arabian Sea & the view from his 9th floor apartment is fantastic. I found a few books on art at his house and it caught my fancy immediately. I did mention earlier that I now want to diversify into fine arts with the aim of digitalising and the book on the Louvre Art Gallery put more oil in the already raging fire inside me. Anyways, the food was good and both Jayant and Ranjana were excellent hosts for the day. Thanks a million:-)

Since I and Aadesh are spiritually inclined we decided to drop by the Prabhadevi Siddhivinayak temple to pay our respects to Ganesh. If there was anything that caught our attention instantly, it was the high security presence there after the Ayodhya incident. It seemed more like coming to some airport or a defence facility rather than a temple. Sadly, it seems like Lord Ganpati will have to live with this for sometime now.
