birthday

Happy 64th Birthday, Steve Jobs!

At Apple, we come at everything asking, ‘How easy is this going to be for the user? How great it is going to be for the user?’ After that, it’s like at Pixar. Everyone in Hollywood says the key to good animated movies is story, story, story. But when it really gets down to it, when the story isn’t working, they will not stop production and spend more money and get the story right. That’s what I see about the software business. Everybody says, ‘Oh, the user is the most important thing’ but nobody else really does it.

Happy Birthday, Steve Jobs!

Steve Jobs

You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.

A Momentous Day

Birthdays are a special reason to celebrate and most of the time I would prefer to do it alone within the confines of my humble abode. I would watch movies, eat junk, surf the net for all kinds of foolish things, shop for myself, receive birthday wishes on phone, mails wherever; yes that’s special for me.This time I ventured away from my 5 year tradition of not working on my birthday and considered celebrating it with my colleagues and friends. 2006 in many ways has been a “year of big changes” for me.

The day always starts with a visit to the Ganpati temple to offer my prayers and seek blessings for the next year. Then the heavy lunch at the India Tea Center, here in downtown Mumbai (with 16 of us) was amazing. If you decide to visit Mumbai, do plan a visit at this place in Churchgate for its traditional Indian interiors and good food but be aware of the slow service that they offer. Nevertheless, the highlight of the day was a book on the dutch graphic artist M C Escher gifted to me by the team, which contains some of his rare works and his “puzzled” artworks. The cake cutting ceremony in the office was made momentous by the laughter and the chatter over some silly innuendos. Someone was generous to shoot a video and I would see if I can share it here. Lastly it was my meeting with an old friend Randhir in the evening which bought some old memories back. At the end of this as I had anticipated, the celebrations and the joy had bought me crashing down on my bed too fast.

Check out the events that took place on 7th November, back in time.

Fun @ Mocambo

Mummy out of town means party for me. Yesterday I had continental lunch at Cafe Mocambo situated at Fort in south Mumbai. I like experimenting and this proves it. I had continental food for the first time which was an Italian rissoto – rice with american sweet corn and lots of cheese and other stuff. I have forgotten what it’s called. The food was delicious but when I go there next time I am going to order rice with stirred fried mixed vegetables. My colleague Asha ordered the same and it sure looked colourful and delicious. If ever you come to Mumbai please pay a visit to Cafe Mocambo. Day before Aadesh and I went to a restaurant called Urban Tadka which is situated at Thakur Complex in Kandivli. The food was superb and delicious. It was later told to us that showing the TCS ID would have got us a 10% discount. No regrets though.

Ever since I have come back from Nasik I have this thriller story in my mind which I want to write but I can’t seem to get the peace of mind that I need to fulfill it. Neverthless once I complete it I am going to display it here for you guys to rate me as an author :-)

The Day After

48 hours have passed since my birthday but it seems like I am still celebrating it. Yesterday I took some selected few out for lunch and today I distributed some home made chocolates amongst my colleagues in the office. This birthday will go down in history as a very special one I guess. I would hate to believe that this is was my last birthday as a bachelor. But that also means that I will never celebrate it alone :-)

I was supposed to have cut a cake in the office on the 8th. They take contributions from the staff to bring a cake for the birthday guy/gal and all the members gather in the conference room to do the honours. This time there was no such thing arranged for me. It’s delayed I am sure and if not then I hope someone remembers it. I have no memory left of the time I last cut a cake. I must’ve never cut it I am sure with my orthodox grandpa around the house. So I want to cut it now! Amongst the ones who have wished me – belated or otherwise – I thank each one of you for making this day special for me. There were a few individuals who I wanted to be with me on this day but alas! it wasn’t to be.

An interesting incident of today was a phone call from a friend of mine. This friend is special because we talk only on the phone and we have not met for over a year now. She called me today to wish me, totally ignorant about the fact that my birthday is on the 7th and not the 9th. When I revealed the true date I was drawn into a small argument about the veracity of my claim! This was so funny and we both laughed at the same time.

Birthday wishes are still being posted on SurfUnion, my birthday cake has yet to come under the knife and I am still receiving belated calls for wishes. My birthday this year is far from over folks.
