Macromedia Studio 8 Launch

Macromedia Studio 8I was priveleged to attend the launch of Macromedia Studio 8. I say so not because I received a special invite from Macromedia but my plans almost got scuttled with Jayant announcing the monthly marketing meet today. Thankfully Giri understood the importance of attending the seminar and I was relieved for half a day.

Aadesh and I usually go along for any seminars or workshops and it was no different today :-) J W Marriott Hotel is the preffered location for Macromedia seminars maybe since the speakers find it easier to travel to the airport and stay there as well. The seminars are an occassion for guys like us to know more about the software and also network with fellow designers.

Here Comes ‘Katrina’

Hurricane KatrinaMy fellow Indians are excused from thinking that I am going to talk about Katrina Kaif but this really is much more serious than even her acting. Hurricane Katrina hit the US landfall today morning (IST) and was headed towards the city of New Orleans. I experienced the fury first-hand on CNN and they did a fantastic job of sending reporters right in the path of the storm. The eye of the storm is said to be 50 kms and it was rated to be category 5. This evening though it was downgraded to Category 3 but still devastating enough. All this information was thanks to Randhir who got me into thinking mode and I searched the web franctically for more information. As I mentioned somewhere on this blog that he has this passion for following hurricanes.

As the storm narrowly misses New Orleans, it is now heading towards Mississippi. Meanwhile read more about Hurricanes/Typhoons/Cyclones here.

Confirmed @ TCS

Well sorry for my long absence from the blog but I was engaged in making my presentation for my early confirmation which finally happened yesterday. I was more tensed & nervous then when I was first interviewed at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). The presentation I made was in Flash which was different from the rest who would normally use Powerpoint. It was segregated into 6 categories namely Production, Creative Design, Web Design, Client Projects, Internal Support & Future Plans. It was more of verbal discussion than anything else and I did a fine job of it. In the end my work, my presentation and my achievements in the short span at TCS were appreciated by the Head of Internal Branding and HR. I was so relieved after the interview that I ate like a hog later in the lunch time! :-)

Later in the evening, we went to Cafe Mondegar at Colaba where Suku, Giri, Sindhu, Randhir and Aadesh , we all chilled out. It was a party which they gave me for my confirmation and I am grateful to them. I was supposed to be there for half an hour but it stretched to 9 in the midnight.

Here’s to my happiness & prosperity at TCS. Cheers! :-)

My Rakhi Day

My \'Rakhi\' WristAnd I finally got my sisters to tie rakhis on saturday..Yippeee! I remember back in the school days, I was the proudest boy with a total of 6 rakhis! And the big show-off that I was, I used to wear them to school the other day ;-) and everyone used to gaze at my small, thin wrist laden with rakhis of all colours and shiny laces. Rakhi used to be a good day when all my sisters would come home and have lunch and of course tie the rakhi. Now things are totally different. While our equation with one of my cousion has gone sour, 2 of my sisters have got married and settled abroad and I have now 3 of them who visited me every year on this auspicious day. The most part of the day was that my most favourite cousin and my friend from Canada called me to wish me on Rakhi day :-)

I was quite foolish in the school when I used to make a ’sister’ out of every girl I used to like. By the time I had reached my SSC, I had 26 of them!! Not that I hated them as such, but then you also have other priorities in life to cater to ;-) Friendship was like a taboo and I rarely ever approached anyone with that offer. Things changed once I was out of school and into life :-)

This day was also special because we had a small satyanarayan pooja at my house and I believe so much in it. I have been a Ganesh devotee for some time now and never miss out on a saturday when I go to the Ganesh temple at Vazira Naka walking to pay my respects to the elephant god. He’s helped me a lot.

Oh and to give you the good news, I just upgraded my PC to a total of 250GB HDD space and 1GB of RAM!! I am proud of the SATA drives which have got installed now and they promise a good performance in the future.

Fairly Relaxed Today

A friday is a day when you actually are free from all the worries of the past week and are looking forward to spending time on the weekends. At the office though, we have been undergoing some horrific moments over the Banking website. Nevertheless, today was really a wonderful day for me. For a start, it was after a long time that I wore my favorite Provogue shirt :-)

Today was also the special occassion of Raksha Bandhan but sadly none of my sisters were around to tie me rakhi :’-( Although I did speak to ‘ben’ on MSN. Spend the first half doing some stuff for the CRM practice and then went to McDonalds with Suku and Sindhu. It goes without saying that I had my favourite Paneer Salsa Wrap. The most familiar figure Mr. Ronald McDonald was comfortably seated as usual on his bench. I had the privelege of sharing a picture with him.

I picked up India Today while on my way home and was reading the poll undertaken on various issues that plague our nation. It’s aptly titled “Mood of the Nation Poll”. Frankly, I see no result coming out of it. I mean, whats the point in telling the junta at large about the problems that they are facing? And the usual Indo-Pak spat now moving at ’supersonic’ speeds. You must have heard the Pakis “test firing” the Babur sub-sonic missile which is an answer to our very own “BrahMos” cruise missile. The grapevine has it that it was bought from the chinese and was just renamed. The original version is called “Hong Niao” which means Red Bird and they didn’t even bother to change the colour of the missile from Red! How sweet and convenient!

Yawn..I think there’s enough to be said and done. But for now…good night ;-)
